One of the cool things about the
Firefox browser from
Mozilla is that features can be added by programmers called
extensions. Over the next week or so I'm going to look at several of the most useful extensions in a short review. Tonight it's Adblock and Adblock Filterset.G Updater.
AdblockThis is an extension that nobody should be without. I'm sure you've noticed all the annoying graphical banner ads featured on most websites. They hurt your eyes with flashing colors, distract you from the content you are trying to view, and in general slow down the loading of websites (and even in some cases install
spyware). The Adblock extension allows you to set blacklists that block ads or anything else from an entire domain. You can also manually block graphical elements by right-clicking on said element and choosing "Adblock image." Adblock blacklists accept wildcards (example:
http://*.burstmedia.com/*) that allow you to easily block entire domains, parts of domains, or subdomains. Adblock can even block Google Adsense, a text ad element many websites use today.
